Residents and staff at Newfield Lodge care home in Castleford didn’t let the cold weather stop them this week, after they had organised a ‘picnic’ themed pop-up restaurant.
Newfield Lodge hosts regular pop-ups to enable residents and their guests to enjoy a full restaurant experience in the home when getting out and about becomes more difficult. There is a different theme each month and residents had requested a good old fashioned picnic this month.
Staff were hoping that the delicious food could be enjoyed outside in the gardens, but when the weather took a turn for the worse, they decorated the indoor café area, sticking to the theme with mini picnic benches and umbrellas!
The menu was put together by award winning chef, Chris Beech, who recently won Care Home Cook/Chef of the Year at the Great British Care Awards. He put on a traditional British picnic spread of quiche, meats, pork pies and sandwiches, finished with some of his legendary cakes and trifles.
Jessie Wilson, who has lived at Newfield Lodge for four years, said,“The picnic was lovely, even though the sun didn’t shine for us. I really enjoyed myself - the food was a real treat!”
