Ideal Carehomes' Residents Celebrate National Plant a Flower Day

Published: Saturday 28th May 2016

All Homes Flowers

With Spring just around the corner, Ideal Carehomes got residents involved in National Plant a Flower Day on 12th March. Our Regional Activity Executives provided an abundance of beautiful pots, bulbs and seeds for residents to enjoy painting and planting.

National Plant a Flower Day marks the start of garden activities and is dedicated to the planting of flowers and looking forward to the Spring season. Gardening is a hobby for many, young and old, and is a great pastime to bring the generations together. The Alzheimer's Society has been clear about the beneficial impact of gardening including improving sleep patterns, hormone balance and behaviour.

Ideal Carehomes is also using National Plant a Flower Day to launch the 2016 Ideal Homes in Bloom competition. The competition will run across all 15 homes within the company, involving staff, residents and the local community, and the best gardens will win a prize after being judged by the Board of Directors in August. Our residents love to get out in the garden, enjoying planting in the specially designed raised flower beds and enjoying the fruits of their labour socialising at the seating areas in the summer months. Kathryn Disley, Home Manager at Ash Tree House in Wigan, said:

'We all really enjoyed National Plant a Flower day. It was great to get the residents involved in such a fun activity and the home looks great with all the Spring bulbs. It is also a great start to the Ideal Homes in Bloom competition and we are looking forward to getting outside and planting in the gardens once the weather improves!'
