Ash Tree House care home in Wigan, operated by Ideal Carehomes, received a “Good” rating from the Care Quality Commission (“CQC”) in an inspection report published last month. The home achieved the enviable rating in all five key areas of care: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
During the course of the visit, the CQC Inspector spoke to members of staff, residents and relatives and also completed a walk round to get a full overview of life at the home. The report was complimentary about all areas of the home, but particularly for the staff who work there. The Inspector observed the interaction between staff and residents and noted that they were kind, caring and encouraging, with the atmosphere being relaxed and homely throughout. The Inspector noted staff spending time with residents, talking and laughing, with reassurance being given where necessary.
Residents and relatives commented to the Inspector that they liked the staff and found them to be caring and respectful. One said, “The care I got after my fall was excellent; I wouldn’t have made the progress I have without their help and care.” A resident visiting the home at the time of the inspection said. “They have absolutely transformed [relative], everyone is kind, considerate and thoughtful. We have all been made to feel welcome from the start.”
Staff expressed their confidence in Home Manager, Kathryn Disley, saying they felt that Ash Tree House is well run and managed, and they praised the training offered by Ideal Carehomes. Kath said: “I am so proud to have achieved such a glowing report from the CQC inspection. The teams’ efforts and dedication to their residents is second to none. The staff make a real difference to the lives of our residents and the report just proves that Ash Tree House is a great place to live. I’m aiming for our next report to be Outstanding – we have the team, the beautiful building and the dedication to make that happen.”
CQC made the unannounced visit in August and they found that residents were happy with all matters in the home. They enjoy the food the home has to offer, with a varied choice of nutritionally balanced meals. The Inspector also noted that residents benefitted from a wide range of daily activities including interesting speakers, bingo, crafts and board games and also regular pop-up restaurants and trips out.
The overarching theme of the report is that the people who live at Ash Tree House feel safe, are happy and are being cared for and supported with privacy and dignity. Ash Tree House is located in Hindley and is operated by Ideal Carehomes. The home provides residential and dementia care for 60 residents and is committed to offering them aspirational lifestyle choices. Breaking down the pre-conceived perceptions of care home life, the residents at Ash Tree House enjoy an active social environment with events, trips and daily activities on offer.
