Two members of staff from De Brook Lodge residential and dementia care home in Flixton were finalists for the North West region Great British Care Awards.  The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work and care workers can be nominated by colleagues, relatives and residents.

The two members of staff from De Brook Lodge, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, were up for awards at last Friday’s gala dinner at the Mercure Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester.  Gemma Kirk is a Senior Care Assistant and Corrina Clews is Night Care Manager at the home.  Gemma was nominated for the Best Newcomer Award, with Corrina being up for the Frontline Leader Award.  They were shortlisted as finalists earlier this year after being picked from numerous entries by a team of judges from the North West region.

The judges were looking for care professionals who stood out to them by providing a consistently high standard of care, respecting residents’ privacy and dignity, with evidence of dedication and ‘going the extra mile’.  The residents at De Brook Lodge couldn’t have been more thrilled that the two were selected as finalists in these prestigious awards, and even though they didn’t win their categories at the awards, they are all winners in the residents’ eyes.  Margaret Lister, who has lived at De Brook Lodge for four months, said “It’s good that people have noticed what they are doing and that is fantastic.  I am glad to know that staff as good as them are here to look after me”.

Ideal Carehomes’ Regional Director for the North West, Paul Fletcher, was also thrilled for Gemma and Corrina.  He said “We were so excited to have five Great British Care Awards finalists in the North West and over thirty throughout Ideal homes.  All our staff are so dedicated and committed and there is a real family feel at De Brook Lodge, which must have come across to the judges.  Our staff really make Ideal homes great places to live and it is great that the Care Awards raise the profile of the care sector as a whole.”

De Brook Lodge is operated by Ideal Carehomes and has 52 en-suite bedrooms.  The home is committed to offering their residents aspirational lifestyle choices and an active social environment with events, trips and daily activities on offer.
