Coppice Lodge residential and dementia care home in Arnold has been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (‘CQC’). Inspectors made an unannounced visit in March 2018 and rated the home as ‘Good’ in each key area of care: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.
Two CQC Inspectors visited Coppice Lodge to observe daily routines and interactions in the home and they spoke with residents, relatives, staff and health care professionals in order to compile their report. People were overwhelmingly positive about all aspects of life at Coppice Lodge including the personalised care provided, the facilities at the home and the social activities.
Residents told CQC that they feel safe at Coppice Lodge and the Inspectors observed staff empowering and supporting them to maintain their independence. Residents were seen to be involved in making decisions about their care and are treated with dignity and respect at all times. Relatives were also keen to pass on their experiences of the home, with one stating how their loved one’s health has dramatically improved since moving to Coppice Lodge.
People praised the management and leadership, and Home Manager, Samantha Kavanagh, is thrilled with report. She said,“It really is testament to the whole staff team here at Coppice Lodge that we have received a ‘Good’ rating from CQC. We enjoyed a great party with the residents to celebrate! We are extremely passionate about our roles and take great pride in the home – we treat all our residents like they are part of our family and in a way, this feels like our home too. We will continue to provide a great place to live I know our fantastic team and residents will take us all the way to ‘Outstanding’."
Residents live at Coppice Lodge on an all inclusive basis, enjoying the modern facilities and activities without additional fees. CQC noted the meaningful and personalised activities in the home using the various social spaces such as the café area, cinema room and traditional pub. Coppice Lodge also hosts many events involving the local community, including an upcoming celebration for the Royal Wedding, which CQC saw to have a positive impact on residents’ wellbeing. One relative said, “We like the facilities here, the pamper days for [relation], the outings, the hairdresser, it’s all included in the price.”
The overarching theme of the report is that residents feel safe and happy whilst living at Coppice Lodge, with the Home Manager and staff team proving to be caring, supportive and passionate, with excellent knowledge of individual needs to enable them to provide personalised care. Violet Allcock, who has lived at Coppice Lodge for nearly two years, said, “Well done to everyone at Coppice Lodge – the staff thoroughly deserve the result of ‘Good’!”.
