A care home manager in Dewsbury has reached out to thank her staff, residents, relatives and the local community for their support after receiving their latest Care Quality Commission (‘CQC’) report. Cheryl Green has steered Ashworth Grange residential care home to achieving‘Good’ in all five key areas of care: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.
During CQC’s most recent unannounced visits, inspectors spoke with residents, relatives and staff and noted that there had been great progress at the home. They also studied maintenance records, staff profiles, medicine administration and care plans and found that Cheryl had implemented positive changes which have had a huge impact on all areas of life at Ashworth Grange. One relative remarked to the Inspectors:“[Chery] has been fantastic. I cannot praise that woman enough. I have got 150% trust in this home”.
Cheryl said,“I am so grateful for the support that Ashworth Grange has received over the last 12 months. From local nurses, GP’s, social workers and neighbours, through to our staff, relatives and of course our residents – everyone has been with us on this journey. As well as the hard work of my staff team, it is that belief and encouragement which has helped us to go from strength to strength and has now resulted in the rating we deserve.”
Inspectors were particularly impressed with the day to day activities that are available for residents and the new technology that has been brought on board, helping staff to effectively manage detailed care plans and giving them the time to deliver person-centred care. Inspectors saw staff talk about residents with genuine care, concern and knowledge, using this to engage them in a meaningful way. They saw people laughing and smiling and residents looking comfortable and relaxed, making their own choices about their daily lives.
Residents were keen to praise the staff team, commenting to the Inspectors:“They are all good lasses” and “Very good care. The staff are all very caring. The care has to be number one”. Staff said, “I love to care for people, so people are well looked after”, and “I’ve seen a massive improvement in the last twelve months. [Cheryl] has turned it around. It’s all focussed on the residents.”
Cheryl continued: “A manager is only as good as her team and I believe I have the very best in every area at Ashworth Grange. The team give 100% and the ‘Good’ rating really is down to them. I would also like to thank the inspection team as we feel the report has captured exactly what we have aimed for and reflects our continued commitment and dedication to our home. We are now working hard to make Ashworth Grange the first ‘Outstanding’ care home in Dewsbury!”
With Christmas around the corner, the celebrations will continue with Cheryl and her team planning events for residents and the local community with everyone being invited to their Festive Party on Thursday 20th December at 2pm. Ashworth Grange is operated by Ideal Carehomesand offers high quality residential care to older people.
