A daring care worker from Thirsk has raised £130 for charity, after ‘braving the shave’ and cutting off all of her hair.
Night care assistant, Bee Cooney, who works at Ideal Carehomes’ Hambleton Grange chopped off her locks at the home’s annual Summer Fair on Saturday 3rd August.
The 29 year-old is raising funds for The Little Princess Trust, a charity operating throughout Europe that supplies and funds high quality wigs made of real hair to give to children who have hair loss as a result of cancer treatment or other illnesses.
Bee, said: “Sadly I lost my father to cancer and wanted to do something constructive that would mark his passing whilst benefitting others. When I heard about the incredible work of The Little Princess Trust, I knew that this was the charity that I wanted to raise funds for. If the money I raise can help to ease the burden of a youngster going through a tough time it would mean the world to me.
“I was incredibly nervous as I’ve had long hair for years but despite the dramatic change, I know it’s a worthwhile one. I’m thrilled with the amount raised so far and I’m really grateful to everyone that has supported me. My Go Fund Me page is still open for anyone that wants to add a last minute donation.”
Ideal Carehomes’ regional director, Lisa Harding, added:“We are incredibly proud of Bee and her selfless fundraising efforts and the whole team at Hambleton Grange were really keen to get behind Bee and show her their support. The money she has raised is going to a truly remarkable cause that makes a real difference to so many young people’s lives.”
