Batley Care Home Supporting Local Families In Need With Foodbank Donations

Kind-hearted residents, staff and visitors at a Batley care home are joining forces to support local families in need, following reports that local food banks are running low on stock.

Lydgate Lodge on Soothill Lane is collecting donations for Batley Food Bank, which aims to provide enough food for the whole family for three meals a day for one week. A collection box has been set up in the care home's reception area and there has already been an overwhelming response.

Staff from Lydgate Lodge handed over the first donation to volunteers at Batley Food Bank this week, with supplies including tinned food, cereal, teabags and coffee.

Run by a team of community volunteers, Batley Food Bank recently faced concerns that it would be forced to shut down, due to empty shelves. The bank currently feeds around 40 adults and children every day, but donations of supplies are not keeping up with the demand for goods.

Sharon Troy, Deputy Manager at Lydgate Lodge, said:“Batley Food Bank is a fantastic organisation that delivers vital support to those that need it the most in our local community. When we heard that donations were running low, we wanted to do everything we could to support this brilliant cause. The response from staff, and residents and their families, has been fantastic and we’ve just been able to handover 10 bags of food and drink this week. The box will be a permanent fixture in our reception so anyone that wants to contribute is welcome to pop in and see us.”

Audrey, from Batley Food Bank, said:“We are truly grateful to everyone at Lydgate Lodge for springing into action and making such generous donations. These vital supplies will make such a difference to families in Batley, so we’d like to thank everyone involved for their continued support.”
