Residents from a Meltham care home lit up the night’s sky last weekend at the annual Light Up The Pleasure Grounds event at Meltham Mills.
After weeks of preparation, Greenacres residents showcased their hand-painted lanterns at the community festival of light. Eight residents joined forces to create letter shaped lanterns, spelling out the word ‘Meltham’ to celebrate their local town.
Professional local artist, Alex Blakey, visited the care home earlier in the month to help the residents bring their designs to life.
Pat Walker, resident at Greenacres, said:“Light Up the Pleasure Grounds is a fantastic community celebration and we were incredibly proud to have our lanterns displayed at the event last weekend. I’ve always loved to paint so it was an honour to work alongside Alex on this project. She really helped bring our ideas to life and it was brilliant to see the finished piece illuminated for all to enjoy.”
Jessica Skirrow, Lifestyle Manager at Greenacres, said: “We’re really proud to be part of such a vibrant community and our residents wanted their design to reflect their love for the town. It was fantastic to have Alex supporting us with the lantern making and the residents really enjoyed showing off their creative flair. The event was a real success and it was amazing to see the Greenacres lanterns lighting up the sky.”
