A ballroom dance group from a Nottingham care home has hit the dance floor with Strictly Come Dancing’s Flavia Cacace, to perfect its moves.
Residents from Fairway View in Bulwell have been dancing together for six months. Formed by carer, Judy Sherwood, the group took to the dance floor to perform at the opening of Ideal Carehomes’ latest home, Woodthorpe Lodge, in Loughborough.
Entertaining visitors, including guest of honour, Flavia, the group performed a waltz. They were then lucky enough to get some top dance tips from Flavia herself.
Mavis Wood, resident at Fairway View, said:“We’ve been working really hard over the past few months to perfect our performance and have absolutely loved dancing to some of our favourite songs. It really brings back memories from yesteryear and it’s also a great way of keeping active. There are a lot of Strictly fans at Fairway View so getting to dance with Flavia herself was the icing on the cake.”
Judy, carer at Fairway View, added: “Our Ballroom sessions are a brilliant way for our residents to keep fit whilst doing something they love. It’s also a wonderful social activity and we always have a real laugh. There are a few movers and shakers at Fairway View who are big Strictly Come Dancing fans so when we heard Flavia was in town we jumped at the chance to perform for her. She seemed to really enjoy the performance and even took a spin on the dance floor with them, leaving them with memories they will treasure. Thank you Flavia.”
