Jessica Skirrow, Lifestyle Manager at Greenacres care home in Meltham, was crowned the Care Home Activities Organiser of the Year at the Yorkshire leg of the Great British Care Awards which was held at the Yorkshire Railway Museum.
Jessica has been part of the team at Greenacres, which has just been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), for nearly two years and organises person-centred activities, events and trips out for the homes’ 64 residents, giving them a range of lifestyle choices, all included within the fee.
The judges said: ”Jessica was able to show empathy with the people she provides care to. She was passionate and enthusiastic about providing excellent care and support on both a one to one and group basis. Jessica should be very proud of her achievements and this award.” Jessica will now go on to the national final, which will take place in early 2020.
Jessica said: “It’s brilliant to be recognised for my work and to know it’s making a difference to our resident's lives. Activities are incredibly important for wellbeing, and help us bond with our residents - it’s also what makes Greenacres such a caring place to live and work. I’m delighted to have taken home the top regional prize and look forward to the national finals next year.”
Sarah Tomczynski, Greenacres Home Manager, added: “Jessica is an incredibly dedicated member of the team at Greenacres and she ensures that the residents have a varied range of lifestyle choices day in, day out. She has an excellent bond with the residents and gets them involved in creating our programme of activities, which is essential to maintaining their independence and being in control of their own care plan. We are so all proud of Jessica!”
