Newfield Lodge care home in Castleford has raised £1100 for their resident’s fund following several festive fundraisers including an online auction of Castleford Tigers star Jesse Sene-Lefao’s training kit which he kindly donated earlier this month.

The Tigers player visited the care home after the successful auction was completed to meet the residents of Newfield lodge and personally present the winner with their new shirt.

Residents and staff met with Jesse, with the gents keen to give him their own pearls of wisdom on rugby techniques. They also spent time discussing boxing and other sports, along with their plans for the festive season.

The care team then took Jesse to visit Roz Muscroft, auction winner and his extremely excited grandchildren who are huge fans of the player to personally deliver the training shirt.

The residents take part in a monthly residents meeting where they will decide what things they would like to use the additional funds for. In the past, residents have used the money to buy a retro jukebox for their lounge area and additional trips and activities.

Resident Phillip Scott said ‘It is so nice to see the younger generation helping to raise money for our resident's fund, I think it’s great Jesse took time out of his busy day to visit us we had a really nice chat, he is a lovely guy’.

Emily Waugh, Lifestyle Manager at Newfield Lodge said ‘We can’t thank Castleford Tigers enough for helping us raise money for our residents. We are so grateful for the generous donations we have received from our local community to help us reach our target’.

Newfield Lodge is operated by Ideal Carehomes and recently achieved a 'Good' rating for a second time by the Care Quality Commission. All 64 bedrooms at the residential and dementia care home are en-suite, enabling staff to deliver dignified and person-centred care. Boasting spacious lounges, a hair salon and cinema room, residents enjoy a full programme of health, leisure and wellbeing activities, managed by a dedicated lifestyle manager.
