Ebor Court care home in Nether Poppleton helps resident celebrate milestone 101st birthday.
Tess George, born in Wallasey in 1919, has celebrated her 101stbirthday this week, marking the special occasion with a party at her home, Ebor Court in York. The party was attended by Tess’s family with a special Facetime call from her daughter who has lived in New Zealand for 35 years.
After leaving school aged 15, Tess studied for a scholarship before securing her first job as a shorthand typist in the Liver Building on the Albert Dock in Liverpool. Tess married in 1947 to Eric George who was a member of the Royal Air Force. Shortly after, Eric was relocated so the pair moved to Aden in the Middle East where Tess also worked with the RAF as a typist. The couple had four children and they continued to travel the world for Eric’s work until finally settling at the York Air Force base in Church Fenton. Tess now has nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Staff at Ebor Court decorated the home with banners and balloons in honour of Tess’s birthday and other residents joined the celebrations, with everyone enjoying a delicious buffet and freshly baked cakes. Tess’s family also arranged for a projector to play home movies and display pictures of herself and her family throughout the years, which provoked many special memories.
Tess, who has lived at Ebor Court care home for a year, said: ‘This has been a lovely day, I am very thankful for all of the time the care team have put into making this so perfect. I am especially pleased that I could speak to my daughter in New Zealand; it was extra thoughtful of the staff to arrange the call for me’.
Lifestyle Manager, Susie Carmen, said: ‘It has been my absolute pleasure to help spoil Tess – she is such a kind-hearted lady. I feel lucky I get to share in these milestone events in our resident’s lives, it really is one of the most rewarding parts of my job and why I like working at Ebor Court so much’.
Ebor Court is operated by Ideal Carehomes and is proud to be rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission. The home has 64 bedrooms, all complete with en-suite facilities, which enables staff to deliver dignified and person-centred care, promoting independence for residents.
