Staff at Handley House care home in York have their wax strips at the ready as two of their dedicated housekeeping and maintenance staff wax their chests to raise money for the NHS.
Between staff and generous family members, the home have raised £550 and counting which will be donated to York District Hospital.
The waxathon fundraiser, which took place at the home on Green Lane, saw Home Manager Rachel McNally and Care Manager Charlene Wrigglesworth wax the chests of housekeeper Daniel Richardson and caretaker Shaun Smith.
Shaun, said, ‘I am in absolute awe of the remarkable NHS staff and anything I can do to raise some money for them I would love to get involved with – even if it was painful!’.
Daniel, who proposed the idea of a waxathon fundraiser earlier this week said, ‘I thought it would give everyone at the home a good laugh and I am prepared to do my part to raise funds for a good cause’.
In addition to the waxing, staff came to work in fancy dress much to the resident’s delight. 76 year old, Sandra Dickinson, said, ‘I think it is brilliant that our staff are raising money for the NHS. I enjoyed watching Shaun and Danny have their chests waxed – however, I must admit I don’t think they were prepared for how much it would sting!’.
Home Manager and chief chest waxer, Rachel McNally, said, ‘The remarkable work our NHS frontline staff are doing every day is incredibly inspiring. The team at Handley House really wanted to do something to give back and have fun in the process, spreading positivity and hopefully putting smiles on peoples faces. I am thrilled with the response we have had so far and am excited to hand over our donation to York District Hospital’.
