Staff and residents at Newfield Lodge in Castleford have been sharing their advice and special memories about raising their children this Father’s Day.

The gents will be enjoying an afternoon of watching their greatest sport memories on the big screen, such as when England won the World Cup final, with lots of pub snacks and cold beers to celebrate the occasion.

Philip Scott, aged 85, has one son and believes from the moment your child is born, everything just comes naturally to you so new dads need not worry about becoming fathers for the first time. He said, ‘I think a dads role is to guide their children and help them learn right from wrong. However, it is equally important to be gentle and patient’.

‘The only thing that I want for my son Is for him to be very happy… and rich, but mainly happy!’.

Brian Hobson, who has lived at the Brookfield Avenue care home since 2017, has two daughters and could not be prouder of them. Brian thinks that watching your children learn and grow into wonderful adults is a privilege.

He said, ‘My girls are fantastic, and I hope they think I did a good job of raising them. It is all a learning curve at first with a lot of trial and error but as long as your heart is in the right place to teach them the proper values, that is all anybody can ask for’.

93 year old Jim Moorhouse, said, ‘I have been blessed with 10 children and I couldn’t be happier – the more the merrier!’. Jim believes that his best advice to fathers to be is to start saving!

He add, ‘I consider being able to provide for your children is one of the most important parts of being a dad. I also think helping them to learn the skills they need to do well in life and support themselves, such as how to fix things around the house, cook and mend a flat tyre… They are all valuable lessons and I am glad to have been able to pass my knowledge to them’.

Pleased to share in the nostalgia, Home Manager, Lynn Robinson, said, ‘Father’s Day is always such a special time at Newfield Lodge, and it will be no different this year. We will make a big fuss of all our gents and we have lots of ways to make sure that they are in contact with their loved ones.’
