Keeping our homes safe – a note from Ideal Carehomes Director, Stacey Linn

The last few months have been unprecedented for us all, but I would like to reassure you of the policies we have in place to continue to keep our residents and staff safe.

Ideal Fresh Living

Most importantly, our high standards of infection control remain in place, and in addition to this we have successfully launched an initiative calledIdeal Fresh Living throughout our homes. Our modern, purpose-built buildings, with spacious gardens, provide a perfect environment to be able to implement natural ventilation which, following the latest research, has been shown to help slow the spread of viruses.  Together with our usual policies, Ideal Fresh Livinghas brought a new focus on ways to build fresh air into our homes each day.

Ideal Fresh Livingalso gives further guidance to our teams on cleaning and sanitisation, going above and beyond the exceptional standards we already employed.

Our spacious homes lend themselves to social distancing with ease and with many large and open areas to choose from, as well as private bedrooms with en-suite wetrooms, there is always plenty of space for everyone.

Protecting our staff and residents

We are extremely proud of all of our colleagues and their unfaltering care, commitment and passion.  They are an absolute inspiration and it really is clear that our residents are at the heart of everything they do.  Our staff teams continue to have access to everything they require, including PPE, in order to stay safe and to provide the very best person-centred care to our residents.

Visiting our homes

The wellbeing of our residents is our priority and there is nothing more important to us than keeping them in touch with family and friends in any way we can.  So far, technology such as Skype and Facetime has helped residents to ‘virtually’ see their loved ones, but with guidance now stating that it is safe to meet outdoors, still at a social distance, we have carefully arranged ‘drive-thru’ and ‘window visits’ for our residents.

We are constantly reviewing this and our next step is to arrange outdoor visits for loved ones to join us in the grounds of our homes to be able to spend more time together.  We are also looking at ways to facilitate these visits indoors during the winter months.  These visits will continue to be by appointment only and adhere to PPE and social distancing guidelines.  We will of course abide by any further local and government restrictions and enforcements and we reserve the right to put visits on hold should this be necessary.

On 22nd July, the government issued new guidelines in regards to visits to care homes.  We are working closely with Public Health England to determine a robust and dynamic risk assessment to implement these new guidelines as soon as possible, whilst ensuring the continued safety and protection of our residents and staff.

Virtual Show Rounds

Our staff teams would be happy to provide you with a virtual tour of their home – this could be a pre-recorded video or live on an online portal such as Facetime or Zoom and we can do this at your convenience.

Moving in to an Ideal care home

We will work together with you and your family to ensure that the process of moving into one of our homes is as stress-free as possible and so our new residents quickly feel settled and at home.  Pre-admission assessments are used to get to know our residents before they even move in and we are able to arrange these within 24 hours of your initial enquiry, or whenever would be best for you.

Our teams are ready to support you from initial enquiry, through the moving in process and beyond.  There really is no silly question and please be reassured that we will be open and honest with you every step of the way.

Even though our usual external entertainers are unable to join us for now, our staff teams are doing an amazing job at keeping residents busy and occupied with various activities and crafts.  We have seen many instances of our staff going above and beyond throughout this period and everyone is pulling together to minimise disruption and maintain normal care home life as much as possible for our residents.
