De Brook Lodge care home, based in Manchester, have received an overall rating of ‘GOOD’ by regulatory body, the Care Quality Commission as the Inspector learnt how the team have supported their residents and each other throughout the last few months. The report details how staff at the 52 bed care home felt positive about their work and how infection control measures have been increased in response to the Covid-19 pandemic in order to keep everyone safe.
During the inspection which took place last month, De Brook Lodge hit the spot across all five key areas of care: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Inspectors observed day to day life at the home and examined paperwork, policies and care plans. They spoke to several members of staff, residents and relatives at the Urmston home to gather a full picture prior to compiling the complimentary report.
The constant theme running through the report shows that residents and staff feel supported, happy and empowered and Inspectors noted the homes’ commitment to testing, infection control, PPE and training over the last few months. In direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ideal Carehomes successfully implemented a unique ‘Ideal Fresh Living’ initiative which sees the care team being at the forefront of infection control and hygiene policies.
The team, which undertook new leadership in March when Home Manager Wayne Jones came onboard, have felt a ‘positive change in the atmosphere’ throughout the home, reporting how newly implemented methods of organisation and leadership have driven positive outcomes for both residents and staff. One staff member said, ‘Management have really supported us throughout, going the extra mile to maximise our safety even providing funding for taxis to work so that we do not have to use public transport’.
The residents and care team recently worked together in an effort to revamp their garden areas for the annual ‘Gardens in Bloom’ competition, which has led to a huge boost in morale as relatives, local school children and local businesses pitched in to make the garden project come to life. The gardening group installed a ‘rainbow’ theme which paid homage to the NHS symbol that has been a beacon of hope for the community over the past few months.
87 year old resident, Phylis Kermode said, ‘I admire the spirit of the care team at De Brook, the team do give their all to the residents and go above and beyond to make sure we have everything we need and are happy. I simply cannot fault the staff team and I feel very lucky to live at De Brook Lodge, I am also so pleased they received such good feedback in the CQC latest report – it is clearly well deserved!’.
Registered Home Manager, Wayne Jones, was commended throughout the report for being supportive, honest and understanding. Wayne said, ‘It is a proud moment to receive this report and the ‘GOOD’ rating across the board. Having the seal of approval from the CQC is hugely encouraging for us and proves that all of our hard work to constantly deliver the highest standards of care has paid off and is a real icing on the cake. This result will provide a boost to the team at this time when they have given so much to their residents throughout the course of this global pandemic’.
Ideal Carehomes Regional Director, Christina Durnan, said, ‘I am thrilled that De Brook Lodge have achieved ‘GOOD’ overall following their inspection, there really has been many improvements since their last CQC inspection and that can truly be seen in all of the positive comments throughout the report. Wayne and his team all do a fantastic job and it is wonderful to see them getting the recognition that they deserve - I would like to personally congratulate all of our De Brook Lodge staff who make our Manchester home such a great place for our residents to live’.
