Staff and residents at Bowbridge Court care home in Newark have been celebrating Wear It Pink Day, a national campaign to support the research and care charity, Breast Cancer Now.

Staff and Residents at the Newark home celebrated the day with all things pink, wearing pink clothes or accessories such as hats and scarves in exchange for a donation to the charity. In conjunction with their pink outfits, each resident was presented with a pink breast cancer ribbon to proudly wear and beautiful pink carnations.

With everyone dressed up, the staff took the opportunity to host a mini photoshoot as well as introducing pink-themed activities such as balloon volleyball.  Mealtimes didn’t escape the pink treatment, with matching cupcakes, ice cream, sweets and of course, pink lemonade!

86 year old resident, Ann Myles, said, ‘I have had such a wonderful day, everybody got involved and we had nonstop entertainment throughout the day all thanks to the fantastic carers. We sang along to ‘Lilly the Pink’ by The Scaffold and everyone was dancing in their seats – it was a fantastic atmosphere and all for a great cause’.

Care Assistant, Deborah Lefley, said, ‘I am so pleased to see how much my co-workers and residents have got behind ‘Wear it Pink’ day. The fight against breast cancer is something I hold very dear to my heart and so to know we have done our bit to raise money and awareness is brilliant – of course, everyone had great fun too!’.

Home Manager, Claire Gordon-Rundle, said, ‘Our ‘Wear it Pink’ day celebrations have been a huge success and we have managed to raise lots of money to fund the continuous research into treating breast cancer. Our residents loved having their pink themed photoshoots and it was a brilliant way to capture our homes solidarity with the charity. I am extremely grateful to all of our residents’ families, friends and local businesses who also donated very generously – thank you, from everyone at Bowbridge Court’.
