Staff at Ashworth Grange care home in Dewsbury have been recognised amongst the best of Yorkshire’s social care workers by the Great British Care Awards.
The care team have scooped an impressive four regional finalists across four categories including Activities Organiser, Newcomer, Frontline Leader and Putting People First awards. The finalists have been nominated by colleagues, residents, relatives or professionals and are selected by a team of judges from their region. Each nomination is a testament to the team’s dedication to their role, providing person-centred care for their residents.
The purpose of the Great British Care Awards is to pay tribute to those individuals in the care sector who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. The finalists will attend a virtual meeting this week where they will be interviewed by several judges who themselves work within the care sector. The results will be announced at a regional gala dinner in April with the winners securing a place at the national awards.
The Great British Care Awards finalist announcement follows Ashworth Grange’s recent celebrations as six team members were recognised for reaching their centenary anniversaries at the home, accomplishing ten years of loyal service to their Dewsbury residents.
Lifestyle Manager, Collette Senior, who has been shortlisted for the ‘Activities Organiser of the Year’ accolade, said, ‘It’s brilliant to be recognised for my work and to know what I do is making such a difference to our resident's lives is the icing on the cake. Activities are incredibly important for wellbeing and help us bond with our residents - it is also what makes Ashworth Grange such a caring place to live and work. I am delighted be nominated again alongside so many of my co-workers, I am very proud of our team and I wish everyone the best of luck within their categories’.
Care Assistant and ‘Newcomer of the Year’ finalist, Tanya Pearse, said, ‘To have joined the Ashworth Grange team in April, during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic and brand new to care, and still be recognised for my work is truly very touching. I have loved every minute of my new role. Even when there are challenges, we have rallied together as a team to lift each other up and support our residents to the fullest. Thank you to everyone who voted for me..
Resident, Bill Atkinson, said, ‘The Ashworth Grange team are certainly on a roll this year, we have just claimed the national runner up title for our ‘Ideal Gardens in Bloom’ contest and to now be informed of how many Great British Care Awards finalists we have in our midst is excellent news. They all deserve to be winners and I am rooting for them all to bring home their crowns!’.
Home Manager, Paul Rowson, said, ‘It is wonderful to see so many of my team be selected as finalists this year.
