Dot Hudson, 88, was delighted when she found a personalised card and gift from international superstar Rod Stewart amongst her post.

In September, Ebor Court’s staff and residents rocked out to the greatest hits of the British rock singer in a specially planned concert. Dot is Rod’s self-proclaimed biggest fan, however, has always regretted not being able to attend one of his renowned concerts.

Deputy Manager, Janette Barrett, at Ebor Court, who is also a huge fan, along with the help of Lifestyle Manager, Susie Carman, set out to host a concert for their residents using their cinema room to stream one of Rod's infamous performances at the Royal Albert Hall. The staff brought snacks and drinks including some of Dot’s favourite fizz to mark the special occasion. By the end of the fun-filled evening, everyone was singing along to hit tracks such as Sailing and Have I Told You Lately That I Love You!

Word of the concert spread, and before long Rod Stewart himself had heard all about the evening and decided to reach out as a special surprise. Rod sent a heart-warming card, wishing Dot a Happy New Year and thanking her for always supporting him along with a signed 2021 wall calendar.

Dot was thrilled to have received a response from her favourite singer, she said, ‘When I opened my card and gift I was absolutely blown away! I couldn’t believe Rod Stewart knew who I was and that he took the time to send me something – It absolutely made my day, and it would not have happened without the fantastic staff at Ebor Court, so I am extremely grateful to them too!’.

Lifestyle Manager, Susie Carman, said, ‘To have the opportunity to put something like this together for one of our residents is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. The whole team really came together, and for our concert to have got the attention of Rod Stewart is just unbelievable, we are all over the moon for Dot as this really means the world to her!’.
