Kind-hearted staff at Thirsk care home, Hambleton Grange, have selflessly donated stock from their own kitchens alongside generous donations from the local community to provide essential food and toiletry packages to local families who have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns.

The care home team partnered with Community Works Thirsk, a charity committed to caring for the residents within the local area, to create essential goods packages including toilet roll, hand soap and sanitiser, long life milk, tea bags, fruit, tinned goods, fish and meat, vegetables, pasta and some sweet treats including biscuits, chocolate and gummy sweets. The contributions from the home will go some way to helping ensure that local families and older people do not go without.

Residents at the care home helped staff organise stock and pack bags ready to be delivered around the community. Resident, Gerry Murray, who has lived at Hambleton Grange since December 2018, said, ‘I think it is excellent that our team wanted to be involved in helping out the community at such an unprecedented time. It is a true testament to their commitment to caring and nurturing for the people around them’.

Head of the care homes domestic team, and driving force for the care package donations, Emma Timmons, said, ‘There are so many people throughout the nation that have been heavily impacted by this virus. When we heard the heart-breaking accounts of how some families and their children were not able to obtain the food they needed, it became apparent that we could really help. Everyone at the home has rallied round to gather as many donations as possible and it has been incredibly rewarding to know that we have helped families in the area’.

Home Manager, Nikki Higgins, said, ‘The Community Works team are truly incredible in the work that they do, delivering vital support to those that need it the most in our local community, and we just wanted to do our bit to help. The response has been fantastic, and we are really grateful to everyone who has made it possible to spread kindness around a community who continuously supports us and our residents’.

Hambleton Grange, operated by Ideal Carehomes, is a residential and dementia care home where residents and staff have recently received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination. The home is currently welcoming new residents for short and long term placements and loved ones are able to visit in dedicated Covid-safe social rooms (subject to current guidelines). Hambleton Grange is rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission. For more information about Hambleton Grange, contact Nikki on 01845 523 837 or visit
