Retired NHS Nurses Give Back on ‘World Nurses Day’

Retired nurses who live at Thirsk based care home, Hambleton Grange, have celebrated ‘World Nurses Day’ by dishing up delicious breakfasts for local nurses to say thank you for all they do within the community.

The ladies wanted the breakfasts to provide a treat for the local nurses and the care team at Hambleton Grange were happy to oblige with their wishes. The team worked alongside Agnes and Audrey to pick the food and craft a touching thank you letter which was given to each nurse.

Agnes took great pride in handing out breakfast sandwiches local nurses on the day. She said, ‘I began my career as a Nanny and soon after trained to be a nurse. I had a very long and happy Nursing career within the NHS, and I am so thrilled to be able to give back to current nurses. We had a good chat about the job, and it has certainly evolved over the years since I retired!’.

Audrey also trained as a nurse and worked at the local NHS Trust for nearly 60 years. She said, ‘Working as a Nurse is an incredibly challenging but rewarding profession, I am really pleased to see the Hambleton Grange team supporting our local nurses and helping us to dish out a well-deserved treat!’.

Over 15 Nurses received a breakfast treat to fuel them for the day, which included, a tasty bacon or sausage sandwich, hot drink and snacks including pastries and cakes. The team also donated a luxury hamper to the district nursing team that visit Hambleton Grange regularly.

Nikki Higgins, Home Manager at Hambleton Grange said, ‘I am so proud of my team, the way that they support their residents to do things like this and spread joy around the community is inspiring. We have received so much positive feedback from Nurses around the area, and it is truly the best feeling to know we have put a smile on people’s faces through just a simple act of kindness. I am really looking forward to the day we can invite the local nurses into our home for a special community lunch afternoon with Audrey and Agnes!’.
