Newark Care Home Resident Scoops Prestigious Award

Frank Cavander has been celebrating with the care team and his friends at Bowbridge Court care home on Bowbridge Road, as he was awarded the highly regarded ‘Resident Outstanding Contribution’ award.

Frank moved into Bowbridge Court in September 2019. Frank is a huge part of the home, as he always joins in with events, activities, and even helping the care team to complete tasks, share stories of his life, often showing off his photograph collection.

On the evening of the care awards, the Bowbridge Court team held a glitzy Oscars style party, where residents were invited to watch the awards live on Facebook, whilst enjoying delicious food and refreshments of their choice. Frank toasted a beer to the other finalists in his category, before facetiming live to the event for the results.

Judges praised Frank for being the life and soul of the home, bringing joy to everybody he meets and taking every opportunity he can to get involved with events and activities, including taking the lead on the team’s ‘Gardens in Bloom’ competition entry.

The annual Ideal Care Awards were created in 2019 to recognise, reward and pay tribute to the Ideal Carehomes staff team who go above and beyond their roles, with a special resident focused award to honour residents who stand out from the crowd.

After a callout for nominations, the group received a record breaking 1200 entries across 14 categories, ranging from Housekeeping Hero and Resident Outstanding Contribution to Home Manager and Home of the Year.

The awards were hosted by Shaun Williamson, well- known for his role as Barry Evans in EastEnders. Shaun entertained the finalists with stand-up comedy before announcing each category winner. He said, ‘It was a real honour to have been asked to join Ideal Carehomes at their awards ceremony. The stories of each finalist were incredibly moving, and it made every award extremely meaningful. Congratulations to the winners, you are all such a deserving bunch of people!’.

Speaking after the awards, Frank, said, ‘It is truly very touching to have received so many nominations, and to win the ‘Resident Outstanding Contribution’ award. I feel like I don’t deserve this title, I have done nothing out of the ordinary – I have always been somebody who likes to keep busy, and Bowbridge Court is my home, so I like to be involved – there is always something going on and I love that about living here!’.

Home Manager, Claire Gordon Rundle, collected the award on Frank’s behalf. She said, ‘Frank is an extremely modest man, and cannot see just how much of an impact his bubbly positive attitude and personality means to our staff team each day.

He loves to join in with everything and our team are always delighted to work alongside him, from doing laundry or a little bit of housekeeping to shadowing our maintenance team and pitching in with the gardening – Frank is a joy to be around and we are thrilled to have presented him with his trophy!’.
