A Care Assistant at Fairway View care home in Bulwell was ecstatic to win a competition to design a Chinese Dragon, after teaming up with resident, Winnie Twells. Anita Bowling, who has worked at the home since October last year, saw details of the latest Ideal Carehomes’ competition and immediately thought of Winnie to help her win.

Two cousins were reunited this week at a local care home’s festive lunch, after losing touch with each other for over 30 years. Alexandra Gilbert and Ena Cooper were both guests at a community lunch at Beaumont Hall in Beaumont Leys when they recognised each other.

All 15 Ideal Carehomes’ hosted a community Christmas lunch this month for local older people who may be lonely or isolated. It is estimated that for 17% of older people, contact with family, friends and neighbours is less than once a week, and this is especially difficult during the Christmas period. Each home therefore invited those who may feel alone to join their residents to enjoy some quality time with likeminded people, participating in good old conversation and fun activities.

Year 6 pupils from Leicester school, Heatherbrook Primary, called on Beaumont Hall care home to help with their project based on life in a care home. The children were struggling to understand what care home life was like for residents and so were given the opportunity to experience it first-hand at Beaumont Hall.

Lifelong Batley resident, Margaret McLoughlin, celebrated her 100th birthday this week at Lydgate Lodge care home on Soothill Lane, and the home ensured that her birthday was one to remember. Margaret used to manage clubs in the local area with her husband Chris, and she puts her long life down to “the odd half of lager”!
