73-Year-Old Care Home Resident ‘Honoured and Proud’ to Win Award for Outstanding Contributions

73-year-old Rosemary Turner from De Brook Lodge care home, operated by Ideal Carehomes, has been celebrating with her friends in the Flixton care home after winning the ‘Resident Outstanding Contribution Award’ at the Ideal Care Awards.

The Ideal Care Awards were created in 2019 to recognise, reward and pay tribute to everyone at Ideal Carehomes who constantly go above and beyond in their homes.

After receiving over 1000 nominations across 14 categories, including Resident Outstanding Contribution, Care Team Member of the Year, and Beyond the Call of Duty, a panel of judges chose a group of finalists for each category.

Those finalists were invited to a ‘dress to impress’ gala dinner at the Casa Hotel in Chesterfield, where the judges announced the winners of each award. The announcements were live streamed on the Ideal Care Awards Facebook page for the finalists’ friends, families, colleagues, and residents to watch.

The Ideal Care Awards judges praised Rosemary for being the life and soul of the home, offering support to her fellow residents, and helping new members of the De Brook Lodge family to settle in. Rosemary said,

‘When they said my name from the stage, I thought ‘Oh my God’. I feel very proud and honoured to have won the award. I will carry on doing what I have been doing in our home to help others. I find De Brook Lodge very homely, and I am really happy to have been recognised.’

Earlier in the year, in celebration of De Brook Lodge’s tenth anniversary, Rosemary wrote a rap about her life at De Brook Lodge to mark the milestone occasion.

In the rap, which received over 500 views on TikTok, Rose talks about the excellent food, entertainment and friendly staff at the Irlam Road home where she has lived since February 2021.

Alan Eyres, the Home Manager at De Brook Lodge, said, ‘We’re so incredibly proud of Rosemary – she absolutely deserves this award. Rosemary always gets involved in the activities in our home and encourages other residents to take part whenever she can.

‘Rosemary plays a huge part in making our home a warm and welcoming place for all who come through our doors, and we can’t thank her enough for everything she does.’

De Brook Lodge is a residential and dementia care home operated by Ideal Carehomes. With 52 en-suite bedrooms and state-of-the-art facilities, it is proud to be rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission.
