75-Year-Old Takes to the Skies with Care Home’s ‘Dream It, Do It’ Initiative’

75-year-old Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Ness from Windsor Court care home in Wetherby had ‘the most wonderful experience of her life’ when she took to the skies in a microlight aircraft as part of the home’s ‘Dream It, Do It’ initiative.

Launched in July, Windsor Court’s ‘Dream It, Do It’ initiative is designed to help residents live each day to the fullest. The care team ask each resident for one wish – their perfect day -and their wish is granted.

Residents are handed a golden ticket ahead of their special day, listing the details of what’s to come. Liz’s wish was to try something that she had never done before, so when she was presented with her golden ticket to fly on a microlight aircraft for the first time, she was thrilled.

When her special day came, care team members from Windsor Court whisked Liz away to RM Aviation in Beverley where she climbed onboard a Flex Wing Microlight. Liz said,

‘It was the most wonderful experience of my life. We flew at 80mph, 600ft in the air over Beverley and the sea. I saw the Humber Bridge and the huge estuary; I feel very lucky to have done it!’

Sophie Summerscales, the Home Manager at Windsor Court, added, ‘It was incredible to see Liz so full of joy when she returned home after her microlight flight.

‘Giving our residents unique experiences and memories they’ll never forget is very important to us, so we’re grateful to have been able to organise such an amazing day for Liz. We’re excited to see whose wish we can grant next!’
