Ebor Court wins regional ‘Gardens in Bloom’ contest with a little help from students at Applefields School
York care home, Ebor Court, has been crowned the North Yorkshire winner of Ideal Carehome’s annual ‘Gardens in Bloom’ competition.
The contest, which launched in May, encouraged both staff and residents across the operator’s 18 homes to work together to embrace their love of the great outdoors by devising and implementing an exciting revamp for their outdoor spaces.

Brian enjoys first rugby match in fifty years at The Jungle
A Castleford care home resident’s dream of watching a live rugby match has come true.
Brian Hobson who lives at Newfield Lodge and last attended a rugby league game over fifty years ago, was delighted to get pitch side once again after care staff took him to watch Castleford Tigers take on London Broncos.

Walkers from Coppice Lodge and Fairway View join forces for fundraising amble
Residents from two Nottinghamshire care homes – Fairway View in Bulwell and Coppice Lodge in Arnold – have come together to participate in their annual sponsored walk, which this year took in the sights and sounds of the picturesque Highfield Boating Lake next to Nottingham University.

Residents from four Yorkshire care homes are bringing back the tradition of writing to pen pals in celebration of the UN’s International Day of Friendship.
Taking place on Tuesday 30th July, the global day of celebration has prompted residents from four Ideal Carehomes – Lydgate Lodge in Batley, Dewsbury’s Ashworth Grange, Greenacres in Meltham and Castleford’s Newfield Lodge – to put pen to paper and write letters to counterparts living in different homes.
It is hoped that the new programme will become a permanent feature of daily life as new friendships are made and old ones reignited.

Tina and Mo to shave heads for chosen causes at home’s summer fair
Two daring care workers from Dewsbury are set to ‘brave the shave’ this summer, by cutting off all of their hair for charity
Carer, Tina Dibb and senior carer, Mo Colbeck, who both work at Ideal Carehomes’, Ashworth Grange will be getting rid of their locks in front of revellers at the home’s annual Summer Fair, which takes place on Saturday 10th August.
