Care homes from across the country operated by care provider, Ideal Carehomes, are joining in with the group-wide ‘Jolly January’ initiative by sharing the things that make them smile in an effort to banish the ‘January blues’.
Residents from Fairway View care home in Bulwell, Nottingham, have been posting things they enjoy and ‘Jolly January’ quotes on their Facebook page. 93-year-old resident, Beryl Bradley, said,
‘I love the New Year, it’s a fresh start. Everything is ahead of you, it’s all very exciting. Some people don’t like this time of year because it’s cold, but the fresh weather makes me jolly and I’m hoping to see some snow!’
Residents from Thorn Springs care home in Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire, have been writing down their wishes for 2023. 90-year-old Rose Sheehan wished to ‘enjoy a hot summer’, while 93-year-old Mavis Foxton wished for her ‘daughters to have everything they want.’
At Littleton Lodge care home in Cannock, staff have been entertaining everyone with their favourite jokes. Alex Field, the Care Manager at Littleton Lodge, told his best pun;
‘What do you give a poorly bird? Tweetment!’
Stacey Linn, the Managing Director at Ideal Carehomes, said,
‘The weather might be cold, dark and gloomy, but our care homes are certainly not letting the ‘January Blues’ get them down!
‘So far, we’ve seen our staff and residents dancing, telling jokes, sharing their words of wisdom, and showing us their favourite things. We hope ‘Jolly January’ will help everyone get through the month with a smile on their faces.’
