Dewsbury Care Home Residents Knit to Support Local Baby Bank

Residents from Ashworth Grange care home in Dewsbury are putting their knitting skills to the test to support volunteer run charity, Stepping Stones Baby Bank.

Ashworth Grange’s ‘Knit and Natter’ club are knitting items of clothing to donate to the baby bank, as well as asking their local community to donate new pairs of baby socks to the charity, after a plea from the charity’s volunteers.

To raise awareness for Stepping Stones Baby Bank, Ashworth Grange are also holding a ‘Design your own sock’ competition, in partnership with Flatts Nursery School.

Pupils at the school, as well as residents, staff, and the local community, can enter the competition by designing and colouring in their own sock in an effort to win some great prizes, including a gift voucher and a hamper basket.

Keen to offer her support, 75-year-old Brenda Taylor said, ‘I think this is such a lovely charity to support, and I’ve already entered my sock in the competition!’

For every entry in the ‘Design your own sock’ competition, Ashworth Grange will donate one brand-new pair of baby socks to Stepping Stones Baby Bank.

Grateful to Ashworth Grange for all of their support, Karen Stockhill, the Founder and Chairperson of Stepping Stones Baby Bank said, ‘Thank you for the amazing donations from Ashworth Grange. Your support really does help us make a difference to local families.’

Sharon Troy, the Home Manager at Ashworth Grange, said, ‘Last year, we had tremendous success supporting Andy’s Man Club and Dementia UK. As our chosen local charity for 2023, we’re looking forward to doing all we can to support Stepping Stones Baby Bank.’

‘We’ve already received so many donations and competition entries for this wonderful charity, and our residents are excited to be offering a helping hand.’
