Mountview care home shows there is such a thing as a free lunch

A Leicestershire care home has declared it ‘treat Friday’ at the end of every week – and plans to indulge the whole village.

Stacie Weaver, home manager at Mountview, says offering complimentary edible goodies is her way of raising spirits in Rothley after a difficult couple of years.

Stacie plans to serve a changing menu of tempting tasters each Friday lunchtime, with passersby already snapping up mini fish and chip cones and luxury hot chocolates topped with cream and marshmallows.

She said throughout April the home, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, will continue to hand out chocolate-themed delicacies whilst in May, her kitchen will prepare complimentary cream teas with homemade scones.

Local people are invited into the reception area of the luxury residential home every Friday between 12.30pm and 1.30pm to pick up their treats.

Key workers who have already enjoyed a tasty handout from the home, which is on Loughborough Road, near to Acorn Park, include paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service and postal workers from Royal Mail.

Stacie said: “We’ve always been very community focused at Mountview and we love to meet new people.

“Since the pandemic, lots of businesses have been doing what they can to say thank you to key workers. We wanted to do this too, but we also wanted to extend our appreciation to everyone who makes up our community.

“Rothley is a lovely area and we are doing our bit for community spirit.”

Arisa Fairbrother, who lives in Rothley, said: “This is such a nice thing that Mountview is doing for the local community. I read about it on their Facebook page and came along to pick up a treat.

Hugh Roberts, another local resident, said “I really appreciate Mountview giving back to the community in this way. I really enjoyed my hot chocolate treat.”

Mountview is a purpose built luxury residential and dementia care home operated by Ideal Carehomes. With 66 ensuite bedrooms, it has secure, landscaped gardens and a full and varied activities programme. It is rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

Local residents can call in to Mountview, at 1093 Loughborough Rd, Rothley, between 12.30-1.30pm every Friday to claim their treat.
