Rothley Families ‘Adopt a Grandparent’ at Local Care Home

Families around Rothley are coming together with residents from Mountview care home to take part in the home’s ‘Adopt a Grandparent’ initiative.

‘Adopt a Grandparent’ encourages families with young children to visit the care home once a month to enjoy fun activities and a homemade lunch with the residents. The Home Manager at Mountview, Stacie Weaver, said,

‘We launched ‘Adopt a Grandparent’ to help our residents build strong intergenerational relationships, and our first session was a huge success! It was heart-warming to see children of such a young age having so much fun colouring and playing games with our residents.’

Local mother, Kerrie Redmile, brought along her one-year-old son, Reuben, to meet some of the residents at Mountview. Kerrie said,

‘Reuben really enjoyed himself once he came out of his shell, we were running around, smiling, playing peek-a-boo with the residents – we will definitely be coming back!’

One resident, 94-year-old Kenneth Mitchell, added, ‘I want to thank everyone for setting this up, I enjoyed colouring with the little boys and I’m really looking forward to getting to know them more.’

93-year-old resident, Edna Colton, also said, ‘It was lovely to get to know and have lunch with the children. I would love for a little girl to come along; I’ve always wanted a granddaughter.’

Mountview’s next ‘Adopt a Grandparent’ lunch will take place in the home on Thursday 24th August. To find out more, or to book a place for lunch, please call 0116 3033303 or email mountview@idealcarehomes.co.uk.
