90-Year-Old Care Home Resident ‘Over the Moon’ After a Night at the Ballet
90-year-old Ann Ladd from Sedgley Court care home in Dudley was ‘over the moon’ when her wish to see Swan Lake was granted by the care team in the home.
During December 2022, residents at Sedgley Court were asked to write down their one wish for the year ahead.
Ann, a former music teacher and lover of theatre, wrote that her wish was to see Swan Lake, as she hadn’t been able to go for many years.
To kick off their Make a Wish initiative, the care team at Sedgley Court surprised Ann with tickets to see Swan Lake at the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre, performed by the Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Ann was thrilled when she opened her ticket to the ballet, and couldn’t wait for her special night at the theatre.
Ann was accompanied by a member of the care team and one of her close friends at Sedgley Court, 84-year-old Jean Whitehouse. Ann said,
‘It has been a dream come true to watch the ballet again, I couldn’t stop tapping my feet all night! We had an excellent view of the stage, and the seats were very comfortable.’
Jean added, ‘It was such a lovely night, I was so happy to be invited.’
