Three-Year-Old ‘Brings Joy’ to Care Home with Weekly Baking Lessons

Residents at Bradley Hall care home in Leicester have been attending weekly baking lessons with their new teacher, three-year-old Martha.

Martha is the daughter of Bradley Hall’s Activities Coordinator, Leah Timmins, and loves to bake delicious treats every Friday with the residents. Leah said,

‘I’m always looking for new ideas to fill our residents’ days with fun, so when they mentioned they used to enjoy baking with their own children and grandchildren, I knew I had to bring Martha in to join them. It’s been a great success!’

So far, Martha and her class of residents have made biscuits, fruit pies and chocolate nests.

95-year-old resident, Betty Seward, said, ‘I really enjoy Fridays with Martha and I always look forward to when she comes in.

‘She has such a beautiful smile that can cheer you up and its ever so funny to watch her bake; she brings so much joy to the home.’

Most recently, Martha and the residents at Bradley Hall baked cupcakes to raise money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People at DR Electrical’s Summer Fun Day in Leicester.

Martha said cupcakes are her favourite thing to bake, because she ‘likes to lick the icing spoon.’

Lee Daly, the Home Manager at Bradley Hall said,

‘Our residents adore Martha; her baking lessons have become very popular! Martha also loves to play board games with the residents, and even gives them hugs to put smiles on their faces.

‘It’s been great to see such meaningful, intergenerational relationships being formed.’

Martha and the residents at Bradley Hall are looking forward to the home’s Summer Fair on Saturday 29th July from 11:00. All will be welcome to enjoy live entertainment, a BBQ, a selection of stalls from local businesses, games and delicious homemade refreshments.
