York Care Staff Get ‘Pretty Muddy’ in Charity Race

Care staff from Handley House care home in York raised over £400 for Cancer Research UK when they completed the Pretty Muddy Race for Life this month.

Seven members of staff from the home took part in the race at York Knavesmire Race Course, battling through a five-kilometre obstacle course.

The participants climbed over walls, crawled through muddy water and got soaked with water guns, but all completed the race with smiles on their faces.

Lucy Coates, the Activities Coordinator at Handley House, signed herself and her colleagues up to the race in January 2022. She said,

‘I thought it would be a great teambuilding exercise, and a brilliant cause to support. I’ve done the Race for Life before, but Pretty Muddy was a whole new experience!’

In total, the group raised £455 to donate to Cancer Research UK. Charlie Parker, the Home Manager at Handley House, said,

‘Cancer Research UK is a charity that is close to ours and our residents’ hearts, and we’re so proud of our staff members for raising such an amazing amount of money. We can’t wait to see what they do next!’
