Residents from Millcroft care home in Redditch welcomed some fury friends into the home recently during The Great Birmingham Bark Off, in support of Birmingham Dogs Home.
Residents, staff members, visitors and their dogs all gathered at Millcroft to enjoy hot drinks and delicious homemade cakes, including treats for the pups, to raise money for the charity.
94-year-old resident and dog lover, Jean Franklin, who used to have a Yorkshire Terrier called Cleo, said, ‘It was such a lovely morning, and I really enjoyed the cakes! It was nice meeting so many people and petting the lovely dogs that came along.’
So far, the residents and staff at Millcroft have raised over £120 for Birmingham Dogs Home, and hope to continue their fundraising throughout the year.
A representative from Birmingham Dogs Home said,
‘Millcroft have helped give awareness to the residents and their families, as well as raising vital funds for us to continue to care for the 200 dogs in our care at the moment.
‘With many poorly and unloved pooches in our care, support like this enables us to give the all the love and support they require until they find a new home to call their own. We thank all the team and residents for their kind generosity.’
Lyndsay Sard, the Home Manager at Millcroft, said, ‘We decided to support this charity after hearing stories from our residents about pet dogs that they’ve had in the past, and how precious those memories are to them.
‘We’re excited to carry on fundraising for Birmingham Dogs Home through our Chatty Café events, which we hold every Wednesday from 10:30 until 12:30. All are welcome to join us for hot drinks, homemade treats and a good old chat!’
